In an initiative which stands unique in every sense of the word, AI or artificial intelligence has now come to the rescue of digitally preserving the globe heritage site, 2nd Century BC Ajanta cave paintings, by which they will preserve for eternity and protect from disasters of every kind and for the interest of safeguarding our historical treasures using AI and digital technology.
This initiative by the Mumbai based Sapio Analytics, an AI and digital management company, for the restoration and preservation of Ajanta paintings with the assistance of state of art technology is to conserve these ancient treasures and then make them available to a global audience.
The digitalized form of these paintings, the Ajanta Caves in India’s Aurangabad district, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are being preserved on an island called Svalbard, in Norway, as a part of a project called Arctic World Archive.
Along with the Ajanta paintings, digital artifacts from worldwide places like manuscripts from the Vatican library, political histories, masterpieces from multiple ages, scientific breakthroughs, and contemporary culture treasures, are also being preserved in Norway.
If one were to explore a more in-depth strategy of this initiative of digitization by Sapio Analytics, which also has its operations within the UK and Silicon Valley, they have used a dataset of references to evolve the AI mannequin, called Ancient AI.
Vedan Choolun, Indian-origin co-founder of Ajanta HC and chairman of UITV, based in London said, “We believe that this is India’s century, and our cultural history should be available to the world to see and to learn from our ancient wisdom which are so needed in our modern world.
Our objective is to encourage and preserve the beauty of Indian Culture, Art, and Heritage for the world and to ensure that all Indians in India and people of Indian origin abroad, and Asians across Asia and other countries are informed of this unique and powerful cultural connection which India must offer to the world.
Ajanta HC is a mutual collaboration between Mayfair, London-based UITV’s Ajanta HC, and Sapio Analytics in Mumbai, India. Our mission in collaborating with our utmost efforts is to digitalize, restore and preserve forever the ancient and modern paintings, sculptures, and artifacts associated with the culture of India and other Asian countries.
As the Indian Government takes over enormous scale heritage conservation efforts in India, as a part of this spirit, UITV’s Ajanta HC with Sapio Analytics is using advanced state of art technology to restore cave paintings in Ajanta Caves and other places across India and in Asia.
Our archeological experts hold that digital restoration does not influence the original artwork, and at the centre of this work are artworks, historical researchers who are very much familiar in the specific field so that the restoration stays in alignment with the real work on the masterpieces.
Besides, the team working on the restoration efforts also includes photographers, artists, archaeologists, and culture experts, including technological experts.
