Ajanta Heritage and Culture’s purpose as laid out by Mayfair, London based Co-Founder Vedan Choolun is a unique initiative using state of the art AI techniques to digitally preserve 2nd Century BC Ajanta Cave Paintings to benefit generations to come.
Ajanta Caves a UNESCO World Heritage Site and place for pilgrimage for Indian Buddhists and Buddhists from around the world.
Overseas Citizens of India or OCI holders are a relatively new phenomenon. OCI holders are generally those who are of the Indian diaspora who left India in the late 1800s with the British to work in faraway colonies as indentured labourers.
This typically happened in countries like Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad, Fiji, Kenya, and Uganda as well as countless others. The Indian Government started a program to enable those of Indian ancestry and culture to reconnect directly with the mother country.
Whilst the majority of Indians who have OCI are of Hindu cultural traditions, there are a number of Buddhists also. Many OCI holders feel a strong connection with the Buddhist heritage of India and on the need to preserve and proliferate the cultural richness in these sites. There is a strong desire from OCI holders to reconnect with the culture of India through sites such as Ajanta and Ellora Caves.
Leading the preservation and digitization efforts is Ashwin Srivastav Co-Founder based in Mumbai, India working in collaboration with Vedan Choolun. The digitized form of these paintings in Ajanta Caves in Aurangabad District, Maharashtra India are designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Ajanta Paintings will be restored and stored on an island in Svalbard, Norway together with other digital artifacts from the Vatican Library, political histories, masterpieces from times past.
